I’m hosting Thanksgiving this year, as it has become infinitely easier to host functions with a toddler than prepare food, pack it, along with all the toddler accouterments, into a car only to re-pack everything again, hours later, to come home (early) so said child can go to bed. I’ve cooked a large Thanksgiving meal before, preparing half of it ahead of time, traveling six hours, and finishing in my husband’s grandmother’s kitchen. I had three appetizers, all the Thanksgiving necessities, and two desserts for eight adults. I’m hoping that I can handle cooking a slightly-smaller meal for six adults (my immediate family) and my son this year, especially since my mom is handling some of the dishes (Thanks, Mom!).
My original intention was to prepare a protein other than turkey. We’ve had Tofurky or a Field Roast Celebration Roast in most recent years. Additionally, no one in my family is that crazy about turkey. It’s not the standout of the meal. I looked into pork roasts, duck, goose, and capons, but ultimately settled on… turkey. We live near the ocean, so I gave a nod to our proximity to the sea with a few seafood selections.
For your viewing pleasure, my Thanksgiving Menu. I’ll be posting specific recipes in the coming days, so stay tuned to Healthful Mama!
