If you’re looking for affordable organic (or, at least, non-GMO) items at your local chain grocery store, try looking in different locations. I was buying an expensive, big-name brand of oats found in the “natural foods” aisle of my grocery store. As it turned out, the organic “off brand” was a couple of dollars cheaper but found on the shelves with the “regular” cereals. Once I figured this out, I found a number of items (beans, rice, and crackers, for example) shelved similarly. If your store has a dedicated “natural” or “organic” section, don’t simply shop there; look around and you may find a better deal!

I found the same thing with spices. In the baking/spice section, some were over 10x as expensive as the ones in the “International Foods” section (ie. with Mexican, Indian, etc.)
