The family was craving pizza one night but we didn’t want to spend money on delivery and it was too hot to heat the oven. I thought, “Huh. I wonder if I could cook pizza in a skillet?” As it turns out, yes, yes I could. Pizza on the stove is my new favorite way to cook it. It takes minimal time, minimal effort (hooray!), and turns out better than most pizza I’ve tried. Give it a go and tell me what you think!
Stovetop Pizza
Stovetop Pizza
Pizza in a cast iron skillet cooks up quickly and easily!
Ingredients
- 2 lb pizza dough
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 1 cup of shredded cheese I like quattro formaggio for an authentic taste.
- 1/2 tsp. Herbs de Provence
- olive oil
Instructions
- Prepare your crusts by rolling and stretching your dough into two 8" circles. I find it easiest to prepare two smaller pizzas than one large.
- Coat a cast iron skillet with 1 tsp olive oil and heat on med-high.
- Once skillet is hot, place the first dough circle onto the skillet. Let cook until browned and crisp on the bottom, about 5-7 minutes.
- Flip the dough over. Arrange 1/2 of the sauce, Herbs, and cheese on your crust.
- Cover skillet with a lid.
- Cook until cheese is melted and crust is browned.
- Repeat with second crust.
Notes
Add any toppings you'd like! Remember that your toppings will only heat, not cook, so if you want softened mushrooms, be sure to cook them in advance.
