Attune Foods so generously sent me a box brimming with three varieties of cereal: Uncle Sam (rolled wheat), Erewhon Corn Flakes, and Erewhon Crispy Brown Rice. I was so excited to create a few unique recipes using the dry cereals as coating for fish, or as a crust for a delectable dessert, but we never made it that far. These cereals were devoured in no time flat. They are THAT good–and this coming from someone who doesn’t eat cold cereal for breakfast.
Here’s what I like:
-Simple, organic ingredients. “Simple Ingredients” is part of Attune’s tagline and it’s the truth. When I first inspected the packaging, I was shocked at the tiny ingredients list. The ingredients in Uncle Sam cereal read: “Whole wheat kernels, whole flaxseed, salt, barley malt.” This gives me hope for packaged foods.
-Whole grains. Organic brown rice. Organic milled corn. This is what I want to see and Attune delivers.
-Cereal that doesn’t get soggy. I’ve tried other brands of organic cereals and they seem to turn to mush if one dawdles too long at the cereal bowl (or has to pause breakfast to clean up a toddler’s spilled drink ~sigh~). The Attune cereals held up and didn’t lose any taste in the milk, either.
-FLAVOR. This one is the one that matters, right? Some might find the strong grain taste of Uncle Sam a bit too “health food” tasting for their liking, but I found that adding fresh fruit made for the perfect, crunchy, filling breakfast with enough sweetness to diminish the wheat flavor. The Crispy Brown Rice and Corn Flakes taste just as good as those big-name cereal brands and you can be confident that Attune Foods cereals don’t include any junk. Just rice. Just corn. Why should it be any more than that?
Here’s What Bear (age 2) Had to Say:
-Yum!
-Mmmmm!
-More, please! (Or, “moh, peas!”)
-More of that cereal! Uncle Sam. Seriously, I am so thankful for a kid who covets healthy food. The cereal I thought would be his least favorite because it’s quite “wheaty,” was the one he asked for over and over.
-No, THAT [for dinner]! On a particularly toddlersome evening, Bear only wanted Uncle Sam cereal for dinner. I gladly obliged, sliced up some strawberries, and felt fine with his choice of whole grains and fruit for an evening meal. 🙂
I only tout products on this blog that impress me and that I’d use or buy again. Attune Foods is a quality brand that you can trust–you can take my word for it.
