CHANGE ONE (More) THING CHALLENGE
Long ago, I created a list of the eco-sins we were committing that I wanted to change. This helped reign in my crazy tendency to get everything done at once. I revisited the list a year later and realized we had accomplished many of the goals on the list.
Here’s my current eco-sins-list of things we have/things we do that I’d like to see improved:
-Gas guzzling Jeep Liberty SUV (I wish we could change this soon, but we’ll likely have it forever…)
-Disposable razor blades (Such a waste of plastic!)
-Electronics constantly plugged in (We need to be more consistent about conserving energy.)
-Energy-sucking dishwasher and washer/dryer (Our old machines are definitely not eco-friendly!)
-We’ve been using disposable diapers since July when my son had a yucky infection. In an effort to keep him comfortable, our cloth diaperings are few and far between. I’d like to get back to the cloth!
-Clothing purchases from chain retailers (I know these clothes are full of chemicals to keep them “fresh” and have probably been produced under unethical working conditions. I’d like to see us find other options.)
-We don’t compost any longer. In the spring, I want to get our pile healthy again.
So, here’s the challenge. Make your list. (If you need a refresher course, check out my Green Living page.) Commit to changing one thing each month (or starting towards change each month). Post your list in the comments. We’ll keep each other on track. Next month, let’s check back to see how we’ve done (or what more we can add to the list!). Deal?

I’m definitely with you on the Clothing purchases. It just seems like anything that is affordable is also mass-produced. I would like to get in the habit of purchasing less, but purchasing higher-quality, ethically produced items. I’ve sort of started by making an effort to purchase clothing second-hand, but there’s always room for improvement. 🙂

definitely unplugging things we’re not using is a huge one. and i seriously dislike the amount of trash we have. using cloth diapers/wipes has cut down on that in huge ways.. but i’d like to invest in more unpaper towels and family cloth (although i share LO’s wipes).. i’m getting better about using towels to clean up after mealtime rather than paper towels, but i still feel much of our trash is unnecessary!

The amount of plastic everywhere is insane, right?
