Last month, I presented a challenge: Change One (More) Thing in your quest for eco-friendliness. I posted a list of changes I wanted to make and asked readers to do the same. You can view my original list HERE.
My change this month: We’re Back in Cloth Diapers!
Sometime mid-summer, my son developed a funky rash that required the use of an anti-fungal cream. We were doing some traveling as well, and began using one of my favorite disposable options, the GroVia Biosoaker, a compostable insert made of eco-friendly materials. (However, if you read my original list, you’ll see that our compost pile has gone by the wayside, too, so….) Eventually, we found disposables to be a time-saver in that washing diapers got crossed off the list. We got sucked into the “convenience” of disposables and let the cloth sit. (I put convenience in quotes, because, really, how convenient is it when your son can literally rip his diaper off his body and create a poo-tastic art project in his bed, hm?) My fluffy stash kept calling to me but The Bear had outgrown many of the diapers we own.
But I buckled down. I sold off some diapers that just weren’t working for us so I could purchase some things that did (namely, GroVia cotton inserts and a few fitteds and All-in-Ones.) Now, I’ve regained my love for cloth diapering and want to spread the joy!

(By the way, if you’re new to cloth diapering or you’re looking to change someone’s mind about it, I highly recommend Kelly Wels‘ book, Changing Diapers. It’s a wonderful resource that got me re-energized about cloth! Stay tuned to Healthful Mama for a review of this book and another giveaway in the coming weeks!)
So, what will your change be THIS month?

My goal this month in my forever on going changes is to line dry more of my laundry indoors. It is getting chilly and I know that is no excuse to use my dryer as much as I do, especially on diapers. Thankfully my husband is on board for use to try to line dry as much as possible!
HealthfulMama says
I’ll admit that I am bad about line-drying. I live in a very humid climate, though, and I can’t say anything gets “dry” on sticky days!

My goal this month is to completely make the change to cloth and stop relying on disposable diapers.

I’d like to switch from disposable wipes to cloth wipes this month.
HealthfulMama says
Easy switch! You’ll love cloth wipes 🙂 I use them even if we have to use disposable diapers.

I am working on finishing up disposables so I will only use cloth all the time.

I already use Cloth Diapers and Wipes, so the challenge for myself this week will be using less paper towels and more of my cloths! It’s so hard to resist tearing from that roll.
Love this challenge! How would you feel if I decided to link to your blog with a similar post?
HealthfulMama says
Hi Lindsey! Those paper towels can be addicting! And link away! Could you email me about your post? gretchen@healthfulmama.com

my goal is to finish up our disposables and go back to cloth full time.

Great! I hope you’ll come back and share about it 🙂

I use cloth diapers on and off, some weeks are better than others. I’d like to get back into the swing of using cloth diapers 24/7, but it’s so hard to do when I see disposable diapers that need to be used.
I also want to start using Mama cloth, because I spend $5-10/month on supplies, and I’m not one of those women who don’t get there period while their children are breastfeeding. My period came back 2 months after my daughter was born, never mind the fact I was nursing exclusively on demand and at that point she had not even had a bottle of breastmilk.

Every little change makes a difference! Even if you’re part-time CDing, you’re saving disposables from going in the landfill! 🙂
