Raw Food Detox is an easy, effective guide to changing your eating style and getting you to a place of better health. The book is full of tempting recipes and simple tips for transitioning to a healthier diet. Gorgeous photos up the impressive factor in this new book from Ulrika Davidsson.
My first reaction to Raw Food Detox was a critical one: how can a cookbook with “raw” in the title contain recipes with cooked grains, roasted vegetables, and milk-based cheeses? It all seemed so contradictory to me. I started flipping through the book, with its tantalizing photos, and realized that contradictory or not, these recipes seemed DELICIOUS! After reading the introduction, I had a better understanding of Davidsson’s approach with the Raw Food Detox.
Davidsson seeks to make the transition to a raw diet a successful one. She targets women, particularly mothers, in her introduction, while discussing the fatigue, body aches, and general feeling of unwellness of which many women complain. She provides the benefits of a raw diet, along with the theory behind it, and a sample menu/schedule of a typical day on this type of diet. My immediate thought was, “This book is a perfect way to ease into a healthful diet!”
Because many of the recipes are not traditionally “raw” (meaning they include items heated above a certain temperature and some cheeses), Raw Food Detox provides a great transition from a standard American diet to a healthier one. With recipes like Cashew “Cream Cheese” (one of my favorites!), Squash Tagliatelle with feta, nuts, basil & dill pesto, Sweet Potato Pie with guacamole and tomatoes, and Fruity Quinoa Salad with mint pesto, making the switch to nutrient-packed meals is simple! The cookbook includes dishes from breakfast to dessert, with a number of snack and detox juice recipes, as well.
Each recipe in the book is easy to replicate, too. Oftentimes, cookbooks centered on non-traditional eating styles involve complicated preparation or obscure ingredients. That is not the case with Raw Food Detox. There are a few recipes with ingredients like passionfruit and psyllium husks that I know are not readily-available in most grocery stores, but could be easily obtained or substituted. Davidsson’s approach speaks to what healthful eating should be: easy and delicious.
Whether or not you’re ready to “go raw,” Raw Food Detox will introduce you to a nutritious style of eating and provide your family with new dishes that are sure to delight!
