My New Weekend Ritual:
I wake early, sleepily changing into workout gear by the warm, pinky glow of the sunrise. I make my way to the kitchen, where I am jolted to consciousness by the chill of ceramic tiles underfoot. I fill my tea kettle and try to avoid jarring the household awake when I set it on the stove. While the water comes to temperature, I plan my yoga sequence for the day, scrolling through yoga websites and tutorials, making sure I know each pose before I start my practice. At this point, my husband and son are usually awake, greeting me with smiles and good-morning hugs. The kettle whistles. Now comes the part I savor the most.
I open a small cabinet beside the stove where I keep an assortment of loose teas. It smells heavenly: all earthy and rich and vanilla and bergamot and rose, a blend of every type of tea. Today I pick Red Rooibos, an exotic classic. Scooping the tea into my tiny steeping pot, I inhale the lovely fragrance. I add hot water, and wait…
My favorite way to serve tea (to myself) is in a small mason jar. First, I put in the honey, watching it gather in a golden puddle. Next, the hot tea tumbles out of the pot, making an indentation in the honey, splashing up the sides of the glass. I fill it 3/4 of the way full. Next, I add creamy Silk Unsweetened Almondmilk, my favorite tea addition. The white liquid swirls with the glowing red tea, creating a current of dancing beverages. My tea is now the color of pale adobe–utterly drinkable. I can’t wait.
Tea time. With each sip, I am warmed and ready to begin my day.
After sipping my tea, I retreat to my office/workout room and greet the sun. Yoga has become a new obsession of mine, mostly due to the physical benefits, but the meditative and introspective elements are awfully compelling, too. My husband keeps our son occupied and truly allows me to sink into my practice. I close the door, and enter my tiny world of yoga, tea, and me.
For an introvert, for a busy, working mama, for someone who often feels overwhelmed with multitasking, this is how I escape. This is my zen. This is how I bloom.
Silk Unsweetened Almondmilk and Silk Unsweetened Coconutmilk are truly some of my favorite products on the market for dairy-free, delicious ways to add to a plant-based diet.
