WTF Friday: Gillian vs. Nigella?

This week’s WTF Friday Moment brought to you by: Internet Rhetoric.

The following photo comparison of Gillian McKeith and Nigella Lawson has been circulating the internet and, more recently, Facebook, as a supposed reason why a diet comprised of “meat, butter, and desserts,” is better for one’s health.

People have been re-posting this little over and over…why? Let’s not be stupid, shall we?

1. Any diet of REAL FOOD is great for one’s health, diets which both of these women advocate. (And, really, has anyone outside of the UK heard of Gillian McKeith? I hadn’t.)

2. Appearance, skin tone, body shape, fat cells, and propensity for wrinkles all have to do with genetics. One can help genetics by eating well, but, why compare two people with completely different DNA? If Nigella had a twin who ate nothing but vegetables and ended up looking like Gillian McKeith, there might be a case for ya.

To further this point, we might compare Mimi Kirk, a famous vegan (currently 73 years old) with Paula Deen, a famous butter enthusiast (64 years old):

3. Wait a minute. There is no point to further. Because: SINCE WHEN IS THE PURPOSE OF FOOD TO MAKE US ATTRACTIVE? Last I checked, we eat to give our bodies and minds energy to function so we may serve the world a purpose. Comparing, scrutinizing, and labeling women in order to feel more accepted in the context of a commercialized world focused on weight, wrinkles, and photogenic-ness is counterproductive. WTF, indeed.

What do you think of this comparison?

While I do believe that eating healthy foods can make one look *healthier,* it’s amazing what some make-up & hair styling can do to make someone look “better.” So the photos of the different women mean absolutely nothing & are a poor attempt to argue against the veggie diet.

Agreed. There are better photos of Gillian McKeith available (when she has been prepared for a photo shoot).

Also added to this mix is …What are Nigella’s cardio and blood test numbers show? She might have hypertension and have high cholest rate!! We don’t know. The question remains….

I thought Nigella is also a Veg lover (not a Carnivor..😀). She is only prettier than Gillian (doesn’t mean that Gillian is ugly. She is also pretty actually..). The picture doen not reflect which one is healthier. They were in different mood while pictures were taken.
