A couple of years ago, a naturopath gave The Hubs and I a little tip to promote brain health and heart vitality. He told us to mix a little flax oil with some yogurt and add cinnamon. The thought here is that the body more efficiently uses the benefits of the flax oil when they attach to the correct protein (the yogurt). The cinnamon acts as a catalyst to open up the cells to receive said benefits.
We used to eat this little mixture every day to keep ourselves feeling great, but then we moved to a new house, and for some reason, this practice stayed at our old house (strange how that happens, no?). I started making it again recently and was surprised how I reacted to the smell and flavor of the amalgamation. –Sidebar: “Amalgamate” is a vocabulary word I used to teach to 9th grade English students. I’m silently giggling that I used it. End of Sidebar.— My mouth started watering, my brain said, “Yes! Yum!” and I devoured the whole bowl of brain-building goodness in T-minus-17 seconds. I guess Mama’s Body likes this stuff! I’ve been giving it to my son, too, and I like to think his little brain dances when he eats it 🙂
I did some research online and found this alternative, cancer-treatment diet, which mentions a similar concoction, using cottage cheese in place of the yogurt and cayenne in place of the cinnamon.
Whatever you decide to use, give it a try! Start every day with it. It’s deliciously addicting!
Better Body Breakfast or Snack
1 cup of yogurt (preferably plain to reduce your sugar intake)
1-2 T. of flaxseed oil (I get mine from Vitacost. Get a $10 off coupon for new customers HERE.)

Vigorously stir together until fully mixed.

I wonder if this would work as well with ground flax (because that’s all I have in the house). Sounds good though! I’ll definitely try it! Much better than my current cold cereal routine.

It will definitely work with ground flax 🙂 You might want to use an immersion blender, though.

I ate it today using ground flax (all I had on hand) and it was delicious. I’m used to mixing ground flax or even whole flax in yogurt, so the texture doesn’t bother me. This is a great idea for a quick weekday breakfast.
