One major quality that I look for in my personal care products is simplicity of ingredients. Many “natural” sunscreens line the market but very few are 1)truly natural and 2)effective. I’ve found a few that are both natural and effective but cause my skin irritation. I am so pleased to find MiEssence Reflect Outdoor Balm, which holds the titles of Most Pronounceable Ingredients and Best Application (in the little awards show I have going on in my head). Better yet, Reflect Outdoor Balm earns a “2” in the Environmental Working Group’s SkinDeep Database.
I road-tested Reflect Outdoor Balm during a recent kayak paddle. Nothing tests the effectiveness of sunscreen better than a day on open water, with the sun high in the sky, and nothing but reflective surfaces surrounding the boat. I was unsure if the SPF 15 rating would be enough to keep me from burning. However, after two hours of paddling and splashing, the sunscreen did its job without the need for reapplication! I’m also in love with the creamy texture of the balm; it would make a great everyday facial moisturizer if you prefer to use sunscreen daily. Finally, there is no funky fragrances to the Reflect balm and a little goes a long way. Effective, fragrance-free, organic AND is worth every penny? Yes! This is one product you’ll want to keep in your bag at all times. I highly recommend MiEssence Reflect Outdoor Balm for each person in your family!

Will it leave me looking like a ghost?

Great question, Holly! I hate the fact that many non-toxic sunscreens leave a white veil on your skin! There is a *slight* hint of white from this sunscreen, but it is easily blendable. It wouldn’t (and didn’t) prevent me from using it again and the Outdoor Balm doesn’t have the same white-factor as other sunscreens I’ve tried.
